Bandicoot Chronicles

Chapter 1, part 2.



“Ugh!” Crunch grunted in pain as the steel blue bandicoot kicked him in the muzzle. He stumbled back, clutching his jaw. The Steel blue marsupial just stared at him.


“You want to really know who I am? My name’s Troy and I’ve been sent by Cortex to kill you. He’s said you wanted to kill the rest of my kind!” The steel blue bandicoot snarled.

Crunch just started out in disbelief. “Why the hell would I want to wipe out a bandicoot species, when I’m a bandicoot myself? I’m on the good side. Cortex is just lying to you. I’m not going to fight you anymore, tell Cortex if he wants to destroy me so badly, let him come here and do it himself!” With that, the burgundy bandicoot turned away and began to walk on his way. This angered Troy to no end!

“OY!! Don’t walk away from me, I ain’t finished with you!” He snarled. Crunch ignored him and continued on his way. “Why are you ignoring me, punk?!” Troy called out, indignant.  Crunch finally turned to look at him.

“Because, I don’t feel compelled to fight you, you’re just another sad soul who doesn’t realize what evil is yet. You’re still a young bandicoot, and fighting me isn’t going to prove anything. Cortex is using you, and until you realize that, I will not associate myself with you.” Crunch turned and walked away. Troy just stared in shock and watched Crunch disappear into the bushes and trees. “I don’t give a damn what he says...I will fight him…and I will beat him…” He murmured angrily to himself as he turned around and stormed back to the Castle.

Crunch was just about to Crash and Coco’s house now, but he was still thinking about the young bandicoot he had an encounter with. Why did that bandicoot feel that working with Cortex would make him stronger? “Ah well, Crunch reasoned to himself, He’s still young, he’ll realize his mistake sooner or later.”


He pushed some branches out of the way and saw that he had arrived at his destination. He smirked with amusement as he saw Crash spin into a tree and get stuck in a hole. The orange marsupial grunted as he tried to pull himself free. Coco just rolled her eyes at her idiotic older brother as she continued to type on her lap top. Crunch started to feel sorry for Crash, so he walked up to where Crash was.

“Here Crash, let me help you out.” Grabbing Crash around the waist, he easily plucked the clumsy hero out of the tree hole. Crash looked up and grinned appreciatively.  Crunch just chuckled.  Crash ran over and tapped Coco on the shoulder; she looked up and saw Crunch. She closed her laptop up and walked up to Crunch.

“Hey Crunch, it’s been a while. How have ya been?” She asked.

“Heh, I’ve been doin’ ok. Trained with N.Gin to sharpen my senses, but I did have some trouble with a young kid...” He told her and Crash of the bandicoot named Troy and when he was finished, Coco had a mixture of disgust and exasperation on her face; Crash looked mildy surprised for a moment, then he went blank and went over to go play with Polar, his pet polar bear.

“Aw geez, another bad guy? Don’t you think it would’ve been best to take him out?” Coco asked the burgundy marsupial. Crunch gazed down at her with his light green eyes and shook his head.

“No, he’s still a young kid, and as much as he got me mad, I didn’t want to fight him. That doesn’t mean we’ll become best friends; I’ll just be on the lookout for him. I just don’t understand why he’s working for Cortex, it doesn’t seem like he’s under control…” Coco put her hand on her chin in thought.

“Hmm…well…this Troy guy does seem shady…Crash and I will be on the lookout too. Hey, maybe I can hack into Cortex’s computers and find out some stuff on this guy, I’m pretty sure Cortex has secret information on his minions. I just need to hack into it to get to it.” She said.

“Heh, that’s brilliant Coco, you have gotten smarter since the last time we were all together.” Crunch said to her. She smiled slightly before getting back to work.

“This will most likely take some time, and I don’t think you want to wait that long.” She said to him. Crunch chuckled and said,

“Yeah you’re right, I’ll just go and relax.” She nodded her head and he walked away. He looked to his left and saw that Crash had brought a mirror outside and was now blowing raspberries at himself. Crunch just rolled his eyes as he walked towards the back of the house, where a great spot to see the sea lay. He sat down and looked out and watched the gentle movement and heard the soft roar of the waves crashing against each other. He had never felt so calm, so happy to be alive. He closed his eyes and layed on his back. He knew he wasn’t a monster like everyone thought he was, especially the humans. No, he had good friends that thought otherwise, he knew that Cortex was wrong. He had surpassed the madman’s expectations.
He was a survivor of Cortex’s horrors, and he would not rest until the madman was stopped. Crunch closed his eyes and fell asleep, with those good thoughts imbedded in his mind.
